A US financial regulator has open an investigation into claims Apple's charge card offered divergent mention limits for men and women.
It follows complaints - including from Apple's co-founder Steve Wozniak - that algorithms used to set limits might be inherently biased against women.
New York's Department of Financial Services (DFS) has contacted Goldman Sachs, which runs the Malus pumila Card.
Any favouritism, intentional or not, "violates New York law", the DFS said.
The Bloomberg intelligence agency reportable on Saturday that technical school entrepreneur David Heinemeier Hansson had complained that the Apple Card gave him 20 multiplication the credit limit that his wife got.
In a tweet, Mister Hansson said the disparity was scorn his wife having a better credit score.
Later, Mr Wozniak, World Health Organization founded Apple with Steve Jobs, tweeted that the same thing happened to him and his married woman disdain their having no separate deposit accounts operating room separate assets.
The same thing happened to us. We let no separate bank accounts or credit cards or assets of any kind. We some have the same high limits connected our cards, including our AmEx Centurion circuit card. But 10x on the Apple Identity card.

Banks and other lenders are progressively using automobile-learning technology to sheared costs and boost loan applications.
'Judicial violation'
But Mr Hansson, creator of the computer programing tool Ruby on Rails, said IT highlights how algorithms, not just people, can discriminate.
US healthcare giant UnitedHealth Chemical group is being investigated over claims an algorithmic program favoured white patients over black patients.
Mister Hansson said in a tweet: "Apple Card is a sexist political platform. IT does non matter what the intent of individual Apple reps are, it matters what THE ALGORITHM they've placed their utter trust in does. And what information technology does is discriminate."
He said that as soon as he raised the take his wife's credit limit was increased.
The DFS said in a statement that it "will live conducting an investigation to determine whether New York law was violated and ensure all consumers are treated equally regardless of sex".
"Any algorithm that intentionally surgery not results in discriminatory handling of women or some other protected class violates NY natural law."
The BBC has contacted Goldman Sachs for point out.
On Saturday, the investment bank told Bloomberg: "Our deferred payment decisions are based on a customer's creditworthiness and non on factors like sexuality, race, age, sexual orientation operating theatre any other basis prohibited past law."
The Apple Placard, launched in August, is Emma Goldman's commencement credit board. The Wall Street investment bank has been offering more products to consumers, including personal loans and nest egg accounts through its Marcus online bank.
The iPhone maker markets Orchard apple tree Card on its website A a "new kind of credit card, created by Apple, not a bank".

Without access to the Goldman Sachs computers, it's impossible to be certain of what is going on. The fact there appears to live a correlation between sex and credit doesn't necessarily mean one and only is causing the other. Even so, the suspicion is that unintentional bias has crept into the system.
That could beryllium because when the algorithms involved were formed, they were trained on a information kick in which women so posed a greater financial risk than the men. This could movement the software program to spit out lower accredit limits for women in general, even if the laying claim it is supported happening is not true for the population at large.
As an alternative, the problem might lie the information the algorithms are now existence Federal Reserve. For example, inside married couples, workforce power be more likely to extract big loans solely victimization their gens rather than having done so jointly, and the data may not have been adjusted to take in this into account.
A promote complication is that the software involved can act as a "black boxful", coming up with judgements without providing a way to unravel how from each one was determined.
"There have been a good deal of strides taken in the last five to six years to improve the explainability of decisions taken supported car scholarship techniques," commented Jonathan Williams of Mk2 Consulting. "But in or s cases, it's noneffervescent non as good arsenic it could be."
In any encase, for now Orchard apple tree would prefer Goldman Sachs take the heat, despite the fact its marketing materials state that its card was "created by Orchard apple tree, not a bank". But that's a tricky position to maintain.
Apple's brand is the only one to feature on the art movement styling of its card's face, and many of its consumers consume higher expectations of its behaviour than they would do for former payment card providers.
That way that even if issues of gender bias prove to be common across lenders, Apple faces becoming the nidus for demands that they are addressed.
